Newcastle United have announced that striker Papiss Cisse has left the club to join Chinese side Shandong Luneng for an undisclosed fee.

The 31-year-old becomes the latest player to depart Europe for a big-money move to the Chinese Super League.

The Senegal international arrived at St James' Park in January 2012 from SC Freiburg, making an impressive start to his Newcastle career on Tyneside as the club finished the season in 5th under then manager Alan Pardew.

Cisse went on to score 44 goals in 131 appearances in four-and-a-half years at Newcastle.

A Newcastle United statement read:

Cisse will join former Newcastle strikers Obafemi Martins and Demba Ba in the Chinese top flight.
