Orlando Shooting: Vigils being held across region in memory of victims
Vigils are taking place across the region in memory of the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting.
At least 49 people were killed when gunman Omar Mateen opened fire at Pulse at around 2am local time on Sunday.The nightclub is one of the biggest in Orlando and was holding a Latin-themed event with more than 300 people inside at the time.
The LGBT societies at both Northumbria and Newcastle universities have joined together for a vigil outside Newcastle Civic Centre on Monday.
Newcastle City Council hoisted the rainbow flag outside the city centre ahead of the vigil and posted a video on its Facebook site.
On Tuesday night a vigil is taking place at Times Square, in Newcastle, fro 7pm.A candlelit vigil is also taking place at Ripon Cathedral on Tuesday from 7pm.The cathedral will have a book of condolence that we will be sent to the friends, families & loved ones of those involved.
