The Road to the Referendum
Throughout our series, "The Road to the Referendum", we travel the length and breadth of the region looking at how the North East will be affected by the EU Referendum on 23rd June.
Today, we travel from Newcastle to Gateshead and Durham to see how regeneration could be affected by the public's decision.
In the North East, millions of pounds from European investment has gone towards the regeneration of the quayside. According to Gateshead Council:
However, Leave campaigners argue that there is "no such thing as EU money" but UK money - £350m a week - that is being given back in the form of the projects above.
Gateshead's new Council Leader, Councillor Martin Gannon, says that European money helped to turn the quayside into a tourist attraction.
He believes the UK should remain in the European Union:
Meanwhile, Stephen Wilkinson is the head of a recruitment firm and Leave campaigner. He says the money being spent is British taxpayers' money and the decision on where it goes should be made by local politicians, not Brussels.

We asked the public whether they thought the regeneration money was worth it:
