Three-year-old in 140mph police chase on A1
A car which fled police at more than 140mph on the A1 in North Yorkshire was found containing drugs and a three-year-old child.
The grey Audi A4 was initially heading north near Catterick at around 4:25pm yesterday when it failed to stop and was pursued for more than 50 miles, weaving in and out of traffic and onto the hard shoulder at speeds of over 100mph.
The vehicle was eventually stopped on the southbound carriageway near Boston Spa and inside police found a large quantity of suspected cannabis and a three-year-old in the rear.
Two occupants from the vehicle, a 31-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both from Rotherham, were arrested and remain in police custody.
No-one was injured in the incident.
Officers say subsequent property searches have lead to the recovery of more drugs.
Any motorists who witnessed the police chase, including any that were hit by the vehicle, are being urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
