York chairman blasts 'weak' players
York City's imminent relegation from the Football League is because too many of their players are 'mentally weak', according to the club's chairman.
The Minstermen are nine points adrift in League Two and will be relegated on Saturday unless they beat Accrington Stanley and Newport County suffer defeat against Luton Town.
Relegation to the National League would bring to an end the club's four-year spell in the Football League.
York have been near the bottom of the League Two for the majority of the season. After parting company with Russ Wilcox in October 2015, former Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara was appointed in a bid to steer them away from the relegation zone.
Although the Scot has been unable to guide York to safety, club chairman Jason McGill says the blame lies with the players rather than the manager. He said:
Despite the club's impending relegation, McNamara is expected to remain in charge at Bootham Crescent and will oversee a major overhaul of the first-team squad. McGill said:
York were last relegated from the Football League in 2004.
