Middlesbrough announce bike parade for Tour de Yorkshire
Middlesbrough Council has announced the town will host the region’s first giant bike parade to coincide with the arrival of the Tour de Yorkshire.
The parade will be part of a town-wide festival as Middlesbrough hosts the start point for Stage 3 of this year's race, on Sunday May 1.
As the peloton sets off on the final 198km leg which will end in Scarborough, a carnival and bike parade will bring together community groups, professional performers and musicians on decorated bikes.
The carnival parade will draw inspiration from Captain Cook and the ships from his famous voyages - Endeavour, Discovery, Adventure and Resolution – with the procession incorporating the sights and sounds, traditional colours, patterns and motifs of the exotic places he visited.
Anyone wishing to take part is asked to register in advance via www.enjoytheridebikeparade.eventbrite.co.uk
