Sunderland City Council has agreed to raise Council Tax by 4%. It will also reduce spending by £46 million.

For households this will mean:

  • Band A - the majority of Sunderland's properties

  • £822.19 Council Tax per year

  • £31.55 rise

  • Band D

  • £1,233.28 Council Tax per year

  • £47.32 rise

In agreeing the budget cuts the Council said it is "having to make very difficult decisions". Reductions in Government funding have forced the Council to make £207 million of budget cuts since 2010. A further £46 million this year and potentially £115 million more to be saved by 2020.
