Engineers work to repair gas main after leak causes disruption to hundreds of passengers
Emergency engineers are working to repair a gas leak near the A691 which caused Durham train station to be evacuated.
As a safety precaution the East Coast Main Line through Durham has been temporarily suspended and the A691 has been closed to traffic in both directions between the Framwelgate Peth roundabouts.
Rail passengers affected by this incident are advised to check with their train operator or call National Rail Enquiries before they travel on 03457 11 41 41.
Anyone that smells gas or suspects Carbon Monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
