White Widow: Hotel sighting of one of the world's most-wanted terror suspects confirmed as false alarm

A reported sighting of one of the world's most-wanted terror suspects on Boxing Day was a false alarm, police say.

Durham Police have concluded an investigation into a suspected sightingSamantha Lewthwaite, also known as the White Widow, and say they are"satisfied" it was a false alarm.

The investigation was launched after a member of the public reported apossible sighting of a woman resembling the White Widow at Bannatyne's Hotel in Darlington on December 26.

Police probed reports that the British-born terrorist was seen checking intothe hotel, which is owned by Dragon's Den and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! star Duncan Bannatyne.

A statement released by Durham Police today, said: "Following the reported sighting on December 26, at Darlington of Samantha Lewthwaite, inquiries have been conducted and police are satisfied that the person reported is not Samantha Lewthwaite."
