Kathy Secker, a continuity announcer on Tyne Tees throughout the 70s and 80s, has died at her home in Jesmond.

For a generation Kathy, 70, was the face of Tyne Tees Television and was well-known for the 'birthday slot' where she would read messages.

Hundreds of people in the region have since paid tribute to Kathy.

North East television anchor Mike Neville, who worked with Kathy, has described her as “the life and soul”.

Mike told the Evening Chronicle: “Dear Kathy. She was a lovely person. She was genuine and had a marvellous way with people and did so much good with her life.

“I was devastated when I heard the news. She had the most gorgeous friendly face and the most gorgeous friendly eyes".
