Durham transformed by light festival Lumiere
Durham's historic streets, bridges, waterways and gardens have been transformed by a series of light-based sculptures and installations as part of the UK's biggest light festival, Lumiere.
The Norman cathedral has been illuminated with scenes from the story ofmodern cosmology from its birth in the 12th century to the present day.
The magnificent display is a collaboration between designer Ross Ashton and cosmologists and historians at Durham University.
Inside the cloisters, local artist Mick Stephenson will recreate the Cathedral's beautiful Rose Window from recycled plastic bottles.
Durham Castle will be lit up to display stories from local folklore as partof the Fool’s Paradise installation by creative agency Novak.
The four day event is produced by London arts group Artichoke with fundingfrom Arts Council England and Durham County Council.
