More than 20 pupils from North East secondary schools enjoyed a taste of television news during a visit to ITV News Tyne Tees.

The group came from St Mary's Catholic School in Newcastle, Thornhill in Sunderland and Northfield in Billingham.

It was part of a nationwide event involving TV newsrooms.

They enjoyed a series of workshops both in front of, and behind the camera. The highlight for many was a chance to present a weather bulletin, under the guidance of ITV News Tyne Tees weather presenter Ross Hutchinson.

Around 30 newsrooms took part in the open day, including ITV News, Channel 4, Channel 5, CNN and the BBC.

The event was organised by the Creative Diversity Network and aims to inspire young people to consider a career in journalism.
