Hundreds of people turned out at Grosmont Station on Sunday, September 20 to bid farewell to the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive as it made its final journey into Grosmont Tunnel to undergo a major overhaul.

The steam engine is one of the last remaining streamlined A4 'Pacific' class locomotives in the world. Only six remain, four of which are based in the UK, the rest were scrapped during the 1960s.

A major overhaul of the locomotive will be completed, including a detailed boiler inspection and repair, which is expected to take up to three years to complete at a cost of £600,000.
