Sammy Ameobi set for Cardiff loan move after extending Newcastle United contract

Newcastle midfielder Sammy Ameobi has joined Cardiff on a season-long loan deal after signing a new two-year contract at St James' Park, the Magpies have confirmed.

The 23-year-old, who was out of contract at the end of last month, put pen to paper on a two-year deal before heading for South Wales.

Cardiff City CEO Ken Choo told cardiffcityfc.co.uk, "We're delighted to have Sammy on board, having hand-picked him specifically for his creativity and skill".

Ameobi, the younger brother of former Magpies striker Shola, has made 67 senior appearances for the club, 29 of them starts.

The former England Under-21 international had a spell on loan in the Championship at Middlesbrough during the 2012-13 campaign, making nine appearances and scoring one goal.
