Hats off to Pam Royle! Tyne Tees presenter receives Honorary Fellowship from Sunderland University
The woman who is for many the face of North East news, Tyne Tees presenter Pam Royle, has been honoured by the University of Sunderland.
She received an Honorary Fellowship today, July 7 inrecognition of her exceptional contribution to news and current affairsbroadcasting in the North East.
After graduating in English from Newcastle University she taught Englishand Drama in a Chinese girls’ school in Hong Kong.
On returning to England in 1983 Ms Royle joined Tyne Tees Television as aweather presenter.
She later joined Central Television as a continuityannouncer and then worked for ITN World News as a weather and travelcorrespondent covering Europe.
From 1996 she was co-presenter of Tyne Tees News with Mike Neville, and in 2005 became the main presenter of North East Tonight.
Pam Royle is patron of The Great North Air Ambulance Service, North EastLadies Day, Durham St John's Ambulance, TFM and Magic 1170's 's Make a Child Smile and The Evening Chronicle's Sunshine Fund.
