Stag and hen parties turning York into 'no go area'
Concerns have been raised that York is becoming a "no go area" at the weekend because of visitors, particularly stag and hen parties, travelling to enjoy the city's nightlife.
City of York Council has written to landlords and nightclub bosses to invite them to a meeting to discuss a plan of action to reduce anti-social behaviour. The meeting is due to take place in the city at 1pm this afternoon.
The letter says the problem is partly caused by visitors from the North East "who travel to York by train". It goes on to say that the issue has become a major problem for North Yorkshire Police, British Transport Police and the council itself. "York is no longer viewed as a safe family friendly city on a Saturday", it adds.
We would like to hear your views about this story. What is your experience of York on a Saturday night? How are stag and hen parties changing our cities at the weekend? What is the solution?
