Jack Charlton celebrates 80th birthday in Northumberland
World Cup winner and football legend Jack Charlton turns 80 on Friday (8 May) and he began his celebrations this week with wife Pat, Lady Elsie Robson and Sir Bobby Robson Foundation fundraisers.
Jack, from Ashington, is a supporter of his friend Sir Bobby’s cancer charity and is the ambassador for Northumberland Tea, which donates money to the foundation from every box of tea sold.
He was surprised by his birthday cake and took great pleasure blowing out the candle, while charity fundraisers from Darlington, Shildon and North Tyneside and Sir Bobby’s son, Paul, were happy to be part of his celebration in Newcastle.
Jack is planning to spend his 80th birthday with family and eating fish and chips.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation helps find effective ways to detect and treat cancer. It funds projects, including the clinical trials of new drugs, that directly benefit patients from across the North East and Cumbria and which contribute significantly to international research into cancer.
