Constituency Profile: Middlesbrough South & East Cleveland

This constituency is made up of parts of urban Middlesbrough combined with semi-rural villages. It includes Guisborough, Saltburn, Loftus and Brotton. The seat takes in solid Labour neighbourhoods and more affluent Conservative-voting areas.

The constituency includes Boulby potash mine and the Tata Steel Beam Mill at Lackenby.

It has been held by Labour since 1997 but is ranked 20th on the list of Conservative target seats.

Tom Blenkinsop (Labour) won the seat in 2010. He was first elected that year and is standing again.

Lib Dem: 7,340 (15.88%)

BNP: 1,576 (3.41%)

UKIP: 1,881 (4.07%)

Independent: 818 (1.77%)
