Constituency Profile: Bishop Auckland

Geographically one of the largest constituencies in the UK, the Bishop Auckland seat centres on the County Durham town that shares its name. It spans areas as diverse as Spennymoor and Barnard Castle. As such, it takes in former industrial areas as well as remote farms and fells.

Helen Goodman (Labour) won the seat in 2010. She was first elected in 2005 and is standing again. The seat has been held by Labour since 1935.

Conservative: 10,805 (26.3%)

Liberal Democrats: 9,189 (22.3%)

BNP: 2,036 (4.9%)

Local Liberals People Before Politics Party: 1,964 (4.8%)

UKIP: 1,119 (2.7%)

Majority: 5,218 (12.7%)
