The Great North Museum: Hancock welcomes three million visitors
The Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle has welcomed its 3 millionth visitor in just five years.
The museum originally opened as The Hancock in 1884 but it underwent a £26m revamp five years ago and is now managed by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums on behalf of Newcastle University.
Kayley Corbett was the 3 millionth guest:
Ivor Crowther, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund North East, said:
2014 saw record breaking visitor numbers at the museum and since re-opening in 2009 over 109,000 school children aged 5-16 years have taken workshops based on the museum's collections.
