Staff 'terrified' after robbers brandish axes in Middlesbrough jewellers
Staff at a jewellery shop in Middlesbrough were left "terrified" after robbers broke into the shop and brandished axes.
Dawn Welsh, a manager at Market Cross Jewellers, told ITV News Tyne Tees about the impact the incident had on her colleagues.
A group of men raided Market Cross Jewellers on Linthorpe Road yesterday. They smashed displays in the shop before making off with a large selection of watches worth thousands of pounds. No one was injured.
Police say the robbery could be linked to one at another branch two months ago. In November hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery was stolen in a raid at another branch of the shop in Yarm.
A 24-year-old man from Manchester has been arrested in connection with that robbery and was bailed pending further inquiries.
John Maud from Cleveland Police said the robbers were only in the shop for a matter of "seconds".
Witnesses can contact Cleveland Police by calling 101.
