Newcastle United have lost out on a place in the Capital One Cup semi-final after a 4-0 defeat to Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Third-choice keeper Jak Alnwick's error handed Tottenham's Nabil Bentaleb the lead. It was followed by a second goal from Nacer Chadli just seconds into the second half.

The third goal came from Harry Kane, followed Roberto Soldado, who found the net shortly after coming on for him as a substitute.

Earlier in the week Newcastle boss, Alan Pardew predicted a bright England future for Tottenham striker Kane:

Alan Pardew side are currently in a very fragile situation with goalkeepers after third-choice Alnick took a knock during the game.

Regular number one Tim Krul and his deputy Rob Elliot are already injured.

Under Premier League rules Newcastle cannot sign an emergency keeper because they have two fit players: 17-year-old Freddie Woodman and Karl Darlow, who is on loan to Nottingham Forest.

Spurs will play League One side Sheffield United in the last semi-finals.
