Weather: Will 2014 be the warmest year on record?
It may have been a chilly day today - but that is no reflection of the year as a whole.
In fact early figures from the Met Office show 2014 is on course to be one of, if not the warmest, year on record for not only the UK, but globally.
Here in the UK every month apart from August has seen above average temperatures.
But, despite that, none of our warm months has broken a temperature record- instead the year has been consistently warm.
The research points towards human activity being the cause of the above average temperatures.
With two months of data still to add, the full-year global figure could still change.
But at the moment 2014 is just ahead of the current record of 0.56 °C above average set in 2010.
The global records date back to 1850.
