'Pain distraction' introduced at Sunderland Hospital

Trips to the hospital could soon become less stressful for young patients in Sunderland after the donation of new pain distraction equipment.

The 3D Vpod Pain Distraction Unit has been placed in the paediatric Accident & Emergency department at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The equipment is designed to reduce stress, encourage relaxation, reduce boredom and provide a distraction from clinical treatments.

It has been donated by The Children's Foundation following a fundraising campaign launched in February.

Staff now hope to raise funds to buy three similar units for the hospital's Niall Quinn Centre and two other children's in-patient wards.
