County Durham's biggest ever crackdown on fly-tipping has been launched today, Wednesday 19th November.

'Operation Stop' will involve police, crimestoppers and the Environment Agency working together to prevent the illegal dumping of waste across the region.

Fly-tipping is a serious offence and costly to clean up; it puts a strain on the environment, can pollute rivers and other waterways and endangers wildlife.

The maximum penalties for those convicted of fly-tipping can be up to a £50,000 fine and/or twelve months’ imprisonment.
