Byker Grove is celebrating 25 years. The children's drama - which launched the careers of And and Dec - was set in Newcastle and shot on location on Tyneside.

The programme was first broadcast in 1989 and the low-budget show quickly became a cult for the five million-plus viewers who tuned in regularly.

The programme looked closely at a child's transition to adulthood and was nominated for four BAFTA Awards. It ran for 17 years.

Some former cast and crew members of the popular children’s BBC1 drama, will be at the public Royal Television Society event at the Tyneside Cinema tonight for 'Byker Grove - All Grown Up', which will celebrate the achievements and the legacy of the series, a quarter of a century since the first episode was broadcast.
