A street in Newcastle could be the first in the region to be painted with double red lines if plans get the go-ahead tonight.

Newcastle City Council wants to introduce the restrictions to Gosforth High Street as part of a £1m plan to redesign one of the main routes into the city, but campaigners say lost parking spaces could discourage shoppers.
