A Squadron which can trace its history back to before the First World War, has marched through the streets of Darlington.

50th Signal Squadron is based in the town and was given the Freedom of the Borough thirty seven years ago.

The Squadron was formed as the Northumbrian Signallers in 1908 and still attracts volunteers from across the North East.

Reservists give up their time voluntarily to serve in the Squadron and many have seen active service.

Their role is to provide secure communications to troops. They have worked in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also in the UK during the Olympics, the G8 Summit and the recent floods.
