Controversy over work to replace Yarm cobbles
Work to replace the cobbles around Yarm Town Hall has begun, but not without controversy.
The historic cobbles of the market town are now a battleground between residents and the local authority.
Stockton Borough Council is removing a section of cobbles around the Town Hall to replace them with paving. It says the cobbles are dangerous and in disrepair.
People who live there say they are angry because they don't feel like they've been consulted.
The cobbles aren't the only changes. Street lights have been altered and parking meters are being installed.
The residents' association says it all shows Stockton Borough Council doesn't understand the needs of a market town, something council leader Cllr Bob Cook denies.
Tonight they will ask councillors for a referendum.
