Dark skies over Hadrian's Wall Credit: Northumberland National Park

The Government has given a grant of £225,000 to help fund ten workshops in the North East to boost astro tourism.

Parts of Northumberland were designated an International Dark Sky Park last December, the largest area of protected dark skies in Europe. Now a partnership called Animating Dark Skies is organising training for tourist businesses in the North East so that they can take advantage of the increased number of visitors.

The first two events are on 29th April at the Redesdale Arms near Otterburn and on 1st May in Hamsterley Village Hall in County Durham. Bookings can be made by clicking on Otterburn event or on Hamsterley event.

They are open to people who run bed and breakfast businesses, campsites, hotels and self catering apartments, as well as others in the tourism industry.
