Teesside University is to have its summer ball ‘pimped up’ by MTV.

The Middlesbrough based university clinched first place in a nationwide tweeting contest.

The aim was to get as many tweets and retweets as possible using the the hashtag: “#YesPimpMySummerBallTeesside”.

In total Teesside two million posts on the social networking site, 200 thousand more than the closest runners up.

The university won £50,000 towards their summer ball and will be featured in their own TV special.

Luke Stretton Facility and Events Manager at Teesside University Students’ Union “It’s an amazing opportunity for students to not be paying £50 plus for this kind of an event and it will be a fantastic way for the students to finish 3 years of study._

“We are going to have to work with the police, the council and the university on such big event”

There are rumours that several big name acts will perform at the ball, including DJ Tim Westwood and the cast from Geordie Shore.
