Charity to raise awareness of missing York people
Volunteers from the charity Missing People will be at York City FC today (8 February) to raise awareness of missing people appeals in the city.
It follows the recent disappearances of Edward Machin and York St John University student Megan Roberts.
Peter Lawrence, father of missing Claudia Lawrence, will join volunteers they appeal for Edward, Megan and Claudia, highlight the impact of the issue on families, and promote the charity's support services. The event comes as Peter and his family near the fifth anniversary of Claudia's disappearance.
There is no evidence to suggest links between the disappearances, which highlight the scale of the local issue with a recent survey showing 21,122 incidents reported in the region during one year. 250,000 people go missing in the UK each year.
