The transfer window is closing fast - the January deadline expires at 11pm tonight (January 31).

Most of the major action in the North East revolves round Sunderland.

Here's the situation so far.

  • Sunderland sign Liam Bridcutt from Brighton on a 3 and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee. He IS available to play at Newcastle tomorrow (February 1).

  • Sunderland's Lee Cattermole is the subject of what Gus Poyet described as a "serious" bid from Stoke City. It's unclear whether that deal will be concluded, although Gus Poyet made it clear he wasn't keen on selling the player.

  • Sunderland's Modibo Diakite has joined Fiorentina on loan till the end of the season.

  • Sunderland's Duncan Watmore has joined Hibernian on loan till the end of the season.

  • Sunderland's David Moberg Karlsson has joined Kilmarnock till the end of the season.

  • Sunderland's David Vaughan has extended his loan at Nottingham Forest till the end of the season.

Middlesbrough are chasing a striker. It's thought Danny Graham is the major deadline target. He started his career at Middlesbrough. He's been on loan at Hull, but they are happy to let him go and his parent club, Sunderland, would be happy to allow him to join a different club on loan.

Newcastle United have allowed defender Curtis Good to join Dundee United for the rest of the season. So far there's no sign of any incomings at St James' Park.
