Friends and family compete in half-marathon in memory of North East man

Friends and family of a North East man who collapsed and died during the 2012 Birmingham half marathon have completed the run in his memory, a year after he died. Kevin Paterson who was 36, died shortly after crossing the finish line last year despite the best efforts of medics to save him.

Kevin, who had been married for four years, had prepared well for the race and was a keen sportsman. He'd lived in Birmingham for several years but most of his family live in Seaham in County Durham. His sister Kathryn Cowen was among around 20 runners raising money for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young. Speaking afterwards she said it was an emotional time:
