Stand By Your Man campaign underway
ITV's Stand By Your Man campaign is underway. Working in partnership with Prostate Cancer UK, the aim is to raise awareness about the illness and encourage men - and their partners - to talk about it more.
As part of our coverage on ITV News Tyne Tees, we have spoken to David Slaughter, who is from Northumberland.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008. He described his reaction to the news:
The illness was diagnosed after David was invited to take a random PSA cancer screening test (Prostate Specific Antigen).
At age 58, taking such a test had never occurred to him:
David says men need to take more responsibility for checking their own health and talk to their doctors.
