Kate Farnell set up the Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust 12 years ago after battling the disease herself. Because it is a rare form of cancer she found there was little information or support for those diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. She began by meeting with newly diagnosed patients to support them through the illness. The charity now works around the country, she has set up a network of former patients to help others, she runs a helpline for patients and has established a website with information about the disease.

Kate now addresses medical conferences around the world to show Doctors in other countries how they can help their patients better. Her work has brought her to the notice of the Inspiration Awards for women, alongside Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Dame Judy Dench and Victoria Beckham. She has been shortlisted in the last six in the Most Aspirational category - An individual who has shown determination and desire to achieve success and has inspired others to do so. The public will now vote for the winner.
