The friendship that has gone the distance

One is a double Olympic gold medalist. The other is a journalist from Sunderland. In many ways their lives, these days at least, are poles apart.

But Mo Farah and Malcolm Hassan have a friendship that has stood the test of time.

Today, as the Olympic champion was on Tyneside to promote the Great North City Games and the Great North Run, we surprised him by bringing his best mate along.

The pair first met at the age of 14 when they were competing against each other at athletics meetings. They met up at training camps and became firm friends.

Malcolm was in the Olympic stadium to see his mate win both of his gold medals and says he's delighted by the success the athlete has achieved.
