The England cricketer Liam Plunkett has been banned from driving for a second time, after he was caught more than twice the legal alcohol limit after a night out in Durham.

The fast bowler, who is 27, was driving to an all-night garage for food on July 28. He was stopped by police because his headlights were not on. Officers could smell alcohol, and found he had 74mg per 100ml of his breath, when the limit is 35mg.

Plunkett will pay a £1000 fine and £100 costs. He was banned from driving for 40 months, which will be reduced to 30 months if he takes a drink driving awareness course.

He is not playing at the moment as he is recovering from an Achilles injury.
