New expansion at Newcastle Airport
A new development at Newcastle Airport should help reduce queueing times. The £3.2m expansion includes a new security area and an extra lane for screening hand luggage.
The new areas were officially opened by Aviation Minister Theresa Villiers. A new report has revealed that Newcastle Airport contributes more than £600m to the regional economy every year. It supports 3,200 jobs on site and a further 4,600 across the North East.
£173m of UK exports are shipped via the airport, including £150m carried on the Emirates service. And passengers flying from Newcastle Airport will pay almost £49m in Air Passenger Duty in 2012.
