Children from all over the North East were treated to a special flight over the region today as part of the ongoing Jubilee Celebrations. Over a hundred excited youngsters packed departure gate 22 at Newcastle International Airport as flight SL 2012 arrived.

The trip was organised by Newcastle Airport with airline Jet2. Tyne and Wear Vice-Lord Lieutenant Fred Holt joined the party to mark Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.

He welcomed young passengers from Walbottle Village Primary School in Newcastle, Bede Community Primary in Gateshead, Dame Dorothy Primary School in Sunderland, Durham Trinity School & Sports College, North Tyneside Carers’ Centre, and children from Northumberland and South Tyneside.

The specially chartered plane flew them over well known landmarks as well as their own homes. The captain did his best to fly below the cloud which threatened to spoil the view.
