Monkseaton High School is under threat because of a huge financial deficit and falling pupil numbers - something set to hit the region hardest in coming years.

The reopening of St Mary's lighthouse, which was due to be in mid-September, has been delayed due to specialist reglazing works.

North Tyneside council has said that St Mary’s lighthouse in Whitley Bay will undergo some much-needed repair and redecoration works.
