The incident reportedly happened at around 1am on 22 September at the Queen Victoria Monument in Tynemouth.

Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade have offered safety advice after four near-deaths this time last year.

This band of coastal volunteers are as committed now as they were 160 years ago, but the nature of their rescues has changed dramatically.
