President Emmanuel Macron said he would name a new prime minister "in the coming days" following Prime Minister Michel Barnier's resignation.

Barnier is now France’s shortest-serving prime minister in history, after his attempts to push through budget legislation triggered a no-confidence vote.

Michel Barnier said the EU 'must not and will not back down,' and the protocol 'had to be respected' by the British Government.
