Connors Toy Libraries began 51 years ago, initially for children with Down Syndrome, but has expanded over the years.

The award winning author of Vera, Ann Cleeves, has opened a new library for the Cedarwood Trust in North Shields to support children from a deprived community.

Lesley Harrison borrowed a German language textbook from the old Whitley Bay library in April 1966, when she was just 14 years old.
