Isle of Wight and Portsmouth NHS Trusts say demand for emergency and urgent care is far outstripping the capacity the hospitals have.

The Isle of Wight Hospital Trust saw a 20% increase in the number of over 80s attending the emergency department in December, compared to 2021.

Three new extensions will now be built at St Mary's Hospital in Newport after planning permission was granted by the Isle of Wight Council.
