The seafront attraction, which opened in 2016, has debts of more than £50 million, much of it owed to Brighton and Hove City Council.
The company which owns Brighton's landmark observation tower is expected to file for administration. The i360 was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 2016.
The attraction has failed to meet its loan repayments, blaming the pandemic, poor weather and the cost of living crisis for dwindling visitor numbers.
