Headstones deemed unsafe have been laid flat in recent years amid fears the structures could topple over.

Around a dozen residents of New Abbey, south of Dumfries, are bringing their own shears and mowers three times a week. 

The family of a man buried at South Bristol Cemetery say they were shocked to discover a huge pile of earth on his grave during a visit.
