Former footballer Mikheil Kavelashvili has been inaugurated as president of Georgia as outgoing pro-west president insists she is still the legitimate leader.

The previous government rejected a plan for a youth mobility scheme but to get better access to the EU the Labour administration may need to accept one.

The outcome of the election will determine whether Georgia gets back on track to EU membership or embraces authoritarianism and falls into Russia’s orbit.
