Dormouse

Numbers of dormice are steadily rising in the wild after a project launched by the University of Cumbria.

Immortalised as the sleepy guest in the Mad Hatter’s tea party in Alice in Wonderland, the hazel dormouse has seen numbers fall by more than half since 2000.

The animal has been nursed back to health at the Secret World Wildlife Centre near Highbridge.
