A 500-metre section, between Marsden’s Lime Kilns and the holiday park near the Marsden Grotto, has been moved inland by up to 24 metres.
The project will see a 500-metre of the Coast Road in South Tyneside moved away from the clifftops.
The Coast Road between Lime Kilns and Marsden Grotto will be shifted further back from the cliff edge to protect the area from the elements.
